  1. 1894-1987. German Nazi leader. Imprisoned
  2. with Hitler 1923-25, he became his private
  3. secretary, taking down Mein Kampf from his
  4. dictation. In 1932 he was appointed deputy
  5. Fuhrer to Hitler. On 10 May 1941 he landed by
  6. air in the UK with compromise peace
  7. proposals, and was held a prisoner of war
  8. until 1945, when he was tried at Nuremberg as
  9. a war criminal and sentenced to life
  10. imprisonment. He died in Spandau prison,
  11. Berlin. He was effectively in charge of Nazi
  12. party organizations until his flight in 1941.
  13. For the last years of his life he was the
  14. only prisoner left in Spandau.
